Proud of Our History

"We have planted the seeds for this strong community. Let us flourish together. We are living history."

-ElderPride Council, The Center for LGBTQ Health Equity

Pride month, in some ways, is a celebration of Chase Brexton and all we have seen and accomplished as members and allies of the LGBTQ community. Our history is part of the movement toward equity and justice.

The founders of Chase Brexton were LGBTQ activists and providers who sought to build a safe space in response to the needs of our community; to create a healthcare clinic that offered respect, security, and care.

The volunteers who began the practice as a gay men’s STD clinic in 1978 likely had no idea how long the clinic would last. Nor would they have known that our work would be so meaningful and so necessary today.

At Chase Brexton Health Care, LGBTQ Pride is honored every day. But during Pride Month, we believe it is especially important to celebrate our history and learn ways to reduce health and social disparities that exist for LGBTQ individuals.
