(11/30/23) Nurse practitioner (NP) students completing their final semester, along with new NP graduates, are invited to be part of a new NP fellowship Chase Brexton is finalizing with the Supporting Nursing Advanced Practice Transitions (SNAPT) program at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and University of Maryland.

The program will begin in January 2024 with the rotation l cohort of two students, who will then be considered for the fellowship year starting in July 2024. The fellows will rotate with Chase Brexton as students for the final academic period of their DNP programs and become Chase Brexton clinicians once they graduate.

The program will help new NPs transition into their role as independent practicing primary care providers and provide additional specialty training in HIV, gender affirming care and LGBTQ+ medicine. The NP fellows will have the opportunity to remain Chase Brexton providers upon the completion of the fellowship.

The fellowship program will be overseen by Rebecca Coppola, MSN/MPH, CRNP, an experienced nurse practitioner who joined Chase Brexton in 2018. A graduate of Johns Hopkins, Rebecca is certified in HIV care through the American Academy of HIV Medicine, completed her hepatitis C training through The Johns Hopkins University Division of Infectious Diseases, and is in the process of completing her certification with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). She served as one of the providers in Chase Brexton’s Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) clinics and has trained and mentored NP students throughout her career.

"Leading the Chase Brexton NP Fellowship is an exciting opportunity to support new providers in their transition from student to primary care provider," Coppola said. "The additional training we can provide through this program will help us further our mission by preparing new graduates to provide exceptional clinical care to our diverse patient population. I hope to continue to grow the program and provide more opportunities for collaboration and education along the way."
